One Last Time

One last time.

I taught my kids one last time.  I cleaned up the room one last time.  And, finally, I played with them one last time.

I told my 8th graders - I can't think of a better way to end my music teaching career (for now, anyway) than making beautiful music with them.  I looked forward to that moment all day and soaked it in.  The connection that comes from music is a beautiful thing.  And I got to do it with some of my best kids.  One last time.

It feels surreal.  Yesterday was hard.

One of my favorite memories will be rushing to put stuff away, in cases, so my 8th graders could go join the rest of their class to walk in.  One of my kiddos started toward the door, then ran back to give me a huge hug.  Oh, how I needed it at that moment.  I love my students!

Today, I will go to my building as an employee of that school one last time.  I don't know what to do with that.  But I'll try to enjoy it.

One last time.

For those who are wondering, I will be starting a new position next year as an Educational Technology Specialist in the same district.  I am incredibly excited about this new opportunity, but goodbyes are always hard :-).

  1. I'm excited for your new adventure, but that's a rough day to have. I'm glad you got to say goodbye in person though. That's one thing I really regret from when I changed jobs over the summer. We get to know our kids for so long, it's hard to leave them. I hope the transition to your new position goes well and I'm looking forward to reading about your new experiences!
